021 Gallery is hosting Jaeha Lyu's solo exhibition <눈치 Mind others> ‘ongoing overthrough’ from October 24th, 2023 to January 25th, 2024.

Jayha Lyu's ''ongoing project'' was exhibited as an opening exhibition in 2016. This <눈치 mind others> exhibition ''ongoing overthrough~'' extends the context, which goes beyond the traditional exhibition format to showcase the artist's challenge, experimentation, and process. During the exhibition, the works will evolve like organic beings. It is simultaneously the extension and completion of the artist's work. "Mind Others" will complete a narrative on the day the exhibition ends. The exhibition "ongoing overthrough," in which space becomes the work, and the work becomes space, will be continued.

<눈치 Mind Others> will be an opportunity to explore the artist's tireless work, which constantly expands the horizons of contemporary art and breaks down the frameworks he has built, and to join the future work world of the artist who seems to be dreaming and enjoying beyond the waves created by art and technology.

Jaeha Lyu transitioned from traditional paintings to pictorial videos and media display installations that seamlessly blend tradition and modernity. He has established the concept of 'Media Sculpture', utilizing LED displays, and expanding contemporary art's boundaries. 'Media Cheomseongdae,' a symbolic installation at the G20 2010 summit, garnered global acclaim. Following 'Mapping of Junghwajeon at Deoksugung Palace,' he further extended his reach to popular outdoor spaces with 'Gwanghwamun Wavering of Light,' a cultural heritage media façade work that captivated public attention.

Since 2013, the artist has been consistently researching methods for projecting images in the air and has been working on realizing a media space that extends into the infinite. In 2019, Jaeha Lyu's team worked on a project to implement the combination of a sustainable living space and an art space based on ecology in Hajungdo, Chuncheon, suggesting the restoration of imagination and synesthesia toward infinite space. Through this <눈치 Mind others> exhibition, you can meet the process of waterside air media work in a video.

The artist's repetition of difference, which constantly breaks down his own frameworks, now expands into the realm of "kinetic art." The new works to be presented at this <눈치 Mind others> exhibition have the concept and characteristics of media installation work, which introduces kinetic elements and combines media and physical objects. By juxtaposing and combining the ancient geometric forms conveyed through cast iron and the modern technological structure, it brings out simultaneity along the time trajectory of ancient, modern, and present.

The work titled <눈치 Mind others> is a work composed of divided cast iron and has dynamic elements of disassembly and assembly. The combination of objects through the fragments of moving objects expressed as movement is ambiguous in that it is difficult to express in a precise term understood at the boundary of existing expression. This installation work creates a convergence of images that evoke intuitive and emotional reactions, utilizing the expressive advantages of modern media and the given material. The work satirically emphasizes the conflict between the indicators of human existence and the elegance of artistic creation, revealing the discrepancy surrounding the value and availability of livelihood. Just as graffiti on the wall often serves as a medium for sarcasm and criticism, it also deals with the conflict that arises in the ordinary form of human life and the creative process in a cynical way, while at the same time strengthening the connection with the artist's creative will.
