New River Fine Art Presents Exclusive Exhibition of James Gill’s Works Benefiting Jack & Jill Center

Fort Lauderdale, FL – April 8, 2025 – New River Fine Art is honored to announce a special exhibition featuring the works of renowned Pop Art pioneer, James Gill. This exclusive event will take place on April 30, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at New River Fine Art’s gallery located at 822 East Las Olas Blvd in Fort Lauderdale. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Jack & Jill Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening children and families through innovative education and supportive programming.

James Gill, born in 1934 in Tahoka, Texas, emerged as a significant figure in the American Pop Art movement during the 1960s. His early works, such as the Marilyn Triptych, garnered attention and were acquired by and exhibited at prestigious institutions including the Museum of Modern Art and Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC, as well as major international institutions.

Gill’s art often delved into social and political themes, distinguishing him from his contemporaries. At the height of his career in 1972, Gill chose to withdraw from the public eye, stepping away from the commercial art scene. He settled in Northern California, focusing on personal development and exploration. His reemergence was sparked by an interview with the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s magazine, leading to renewed interest in his work and exhibitions at the National Portrait Gallery, The Art Institute of Chicago, Boca Raton Museum of Art, and the Museum of Urban and Contemporary Art in Munich, among others.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with James Gill,” said Lisa Burgess, owner of New River Fine Art. “He was one of the driving forces of the Pop Art movement and at 91 years young is reemerging as a leader of Contemporary Art.”

The evening’s exhibition, titled “James Gill: Women in Cars,” highlights Gill’s enduring interest in the intersections of celebrity, identity, and the American media landscape.

Proceeds from the event will support the Jack & Jill Center, established in 1942 as the oldest nonprofit provider of early childhood education in Broward County. The center offers comprehensive, holistic services to children and their families, including the Early Education Program, Family Program, and HEALTH Program. Their mission is to strengthen children and families through education, supportive programming, and community engagement.

New River Fine Art, recognized as one of South Florida’s premier art galleries, is committed to showcasing exceptional artworks from both renowned and emerging artists. This upcoming exhibition not only celebrates James Gill’s influential contributions to the art world but also supports the vital services provided by Jack & Jill Center.
